Although certainly not a "Philadelphia architect," Christopher La Farge's office, Heins & La Farge, was connected to the Philadelphia area through its church projects and through the training that it provided for Philadelphia's apprentice architects. La Farge was the son of artist and stained glass designer John La Farge. He was born in Newport, RI, and educated at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he met his future partner, Philadelphia-born George Heins. The two would establish their own firm in 1886. After Heins's death in 1907, La Farge chiefly practiced alone, but he did combine with Benjamin Wistar Morris in La Farge & Morris, the office which designed St. Patrick Church in Philadelphia.
