Established by senior architect J. Franklin Stuckert and his son F. Russell Stuckert, this firm benefitted from the lucrative Horn & Hardart automat contract. Their first commission for Horn & Hardart was the office at 1302 Filbert Street in Philadelphia (1898), but they soon expanded into the restaurant side of the business, designing automats at 9th & Filbert streets, 818-20 Chestnut Street, and 29-31 North 9th Street, all in 1901. In addition to this important client, the Stuckerts could boast that they designed the clubhouse for the Philadelphia Baseball Park, Broad Street and Lehigh Avenue (beginning in 1895) and several buildings for the Rumpf family in Langhorne, PA. Throughout this flurry of commercial and civic buildings, the Stuckerts maintained their business in church design, a field which J. F. Stuckert had developed while he was working individually (Calvary Baptist Church, nw 7th & Snyder, Philadelphia, 1901).
