The tenuous connection to Philadelphia for the illustrious James Renwick evolves from his possible connection to William Rodrigue on the design of St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City. A surviving 1859 preliminary perspective includes both names, and contracts indicate that both Rodrigue and Renwick were to be paid for the design. Since Rodrigue was the archbishop's brother-in-law, his role has usually been reduced to an associate.
