Born: 11/14/1913

Newark, NJ, architect Leo L. Fischer was born and educated in New York, earning his B. Arch from New York University in 1935, with the Morse Prize in Design in 1934. After graduation he worked for Simon B. Zelnik (1935-1936) and Eugene Schoen & Sons (1936-1937). In 1937 he launched an independent firm, but then helped to organize the Architects Group in 1954.

In the 1940s Fischer saw government service with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (1941) and then was drafted into the war effort, serving from 1941 to 1945.
