Born: 6/3/1896 Born in Austria, Simon B. Zelnik would become a New York architect after receiving his diploma from Cooper Union in 1924, followed by another diploma from the Beaux Arts Institute of Design in 1930, and finally his B. Arch from New York University in 1931. Along the way he gathered several prizes and medals: Hewit Prize in Desing from Cooper Union in 1922 and 1923; Second Medals from the BAID in 1929. By 1923 he was already a draftsman with Necarsulmer & Lehlbach, and then he worked for Rosario Candela in 1924. From 1924 to 1931 he was part of the Rouse & Goldstone office, becoming an Associate in 1929. In 1932 he organized his own office.Zelnik was often asked to teach classes at local universities in New York. From 1931 to 1952 he was Assistant Professor of Design at New York University. From 1946 to 1947 he served as lecturer at Adelphi College, at the same time teaching in the New York University School of Engineering.
