Cincinnati architect J. S. Scudder was trained in St. Louis, where he worked for George I. Barnett and then for Shepley, Rutan & Cooledge and Peabody & Stearns, both firms maintaining offices in St. Louis. In 1893 he re-located to Cincinnati and entered into several partnerships in that city, including Samuel Hannaford & Sons, George S. Werner with Weber, Werner & Adkins, and others.
