Born: 7/3/1895

Howard Stanley Atkinson, the son of James Hutchinson Atkinson, began his architectural education at the Central Manual Training School of Philadelphia before he earned a certificate of proficiency at the University of Pennsylvania in 1916. He appears in 1918 in the Philadelphia Real Estate Record and Builders Guide on the list of architects who served in World War I. In 1919 his Philadelphia city directory citations begin, and he continues in the city directories through 1935/36. Throughout that time he lists his occupation as architect, chiefly with an office in his home at 1048 South Ithan Street, but in the 1935/36 directory this changes to the Architects Building, and that is still the address he submits for the 1945/46 AIA Annuary.
