Archibald F. Gilbert worked in the firm of D.H. Burnham & Company and its successors Graham Anderson Probst & White of Chicago from 1901. Beginning in 1909, he managed the New York office of the firm where he supervised the design of the Equitable Building at 120 Broadway, in New York City (completed 1915). He opened his own independent New York practice in 1916. In 1925 he designed the Equitable Building at Broad & Locust Streets in Philadelphia with local consulting architect, Horace Trumbauer. Gilbert was Vice President of the Brooklyn Chapter of the AIA.
