Although Frederick Ausfeld is listed in the Philadelphia city directories as an architect in 1890, and the Philadelphia Real Estate Record and Builders Guide lists several projects by his firm Schaefer & Ausfeld, with partner P. Eberhard Schaefer, Ausfeld apparently spent only one year in Philadelphia. At least by 1915 he had relocated to Montgomery, AL, where he would enjoy a successful independent practice. Information provided on his 1915 AIA application indicates that Ausfeld was born in Kirchen, Germany.
