Bethlehem architect Howard J. Wiegner, Sr., was born in that city and graduated from Bethlehem High School before embarking on nearly two years of study at Lehigh University, supplemented with courses from the American School of Correspondence. He worked from 1896 to 1905 with A. W. Leh of Bethlehem. From 1905 to 1909 he was employed in Allentown, PA, with Jacoby & Weishampel, and then from 1910 to 1914 he worked with Theodore C. Visscher in New York. Returning to Allentown in 1914, he again worked wtih Jacoby & Weishampel, this time remaining for only four years before establishing his own office in Bethlehem.
Wiegner joined the Pennsylvania Society of Architects in 1938 and gain AIA membership in 1942.
