The Herbert E. Havens Company represents the effort of one of the sons of Lewis Havens to launch an independent building and contracting company. In this he competed with his brother's business Frederick A. Havens Company, a competition in which it appears from building citations that Frederick A. Havens won since he outlasted his brother in both Philadelphia city directories and citations in the Philadelphia Real Estate Record and Builders Guide. According to Carpenters Company records, Herbert E. Havens died in 1934. Herbert E. Havens Building Construction Co. was located at No. 518 Girard Building, Philadelphia.
