John F. Glass was born in Shamokin, PA, and trained at the University of Pennsylvania, earning a B. Arch. in 1951. He won the Warren Powers Laird Memorial Prize in 1947, and the Frank Miles Day Memorial Prize in 1948.
After completing his degree, he entered the office of Vincent J. Kling, working in the firm at the same time as future partners William W. Eshbach and Harry Kale. In 1952, he left to join Eshbach's newly established firm (William W. Eshbach & Associates). Glass became a partner when Eshbach's business was merged with Pullinger, Stevens & Bruder to form Eshbach, Pullinger, Stevens & Bruder (1954-1972). Glass was a named partner in that firm's successor, Eshbach, Glass, Kale & Associates, from 1972 until the dissolution of the firm about 1980. Glass then joined Ewing Cole Cherry Parsky, and remained with this firm and its successors (the last of these being Ewing Cole Cherry Brott) until his retirement in 1996.
Glass was an Instructor in Design at the University of Pennsylvania in the academic year 1956-1957. He also taught at the Drexel Institute of Technology, first as an instructor in architectural design (1958-1962), and then as an adjunct assistant professor (1962-1963).
Glass joined the national AIA in 1957, and was a member of Philadelphia Chapter. He was a member of the AIA's Committee on Architecture for Justice, in 1974-1975.
