Born in Philadelphia, Edward Geddes received his architectural training at the University of Pennsylvania, completing a B. Arch. in 1949 after serving in the U. S. Air Force during World War II. Geddes worked in the office of James G. Ludwig, III from 1950 until 1952. Before opening his own office in Philadelphia in 1954, Geddes worked in a number of Philadelphia offices: Barney & Banwell (1952-1953) Wigham & Tilden (1953), and Pepper Associates (1953-1954). Geddes joined the national AIA in 1959 and was a member of Philadelphia Chapter.
