Charles A. Scheuringer, successor to the firm of Heacock & Hokanson, was born in Goucester, NJ, graduated from Northeast High School in Philadelphia, and received his Certificate in House Construction from Drexel Institute in 1910. He then entered the University of Pennsylvania and received his B.S. in Architecture there in 1916. He had been working with Heacock & Hokanson since 1909 and in 1928 was made a partner. In 1940, when Joseph Heacock retired from the firm, Oscar Hokanson and Scheuringer continued, with Hokanson retiring in 1950. In 1952 Scheuringer was appointed the first consulting architect for the Department of Church Architecture, United Lutheran Church. Six years later he received an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree from Midland College in Fremont, NE, in recognition of 30 years of service to the United Lutheran Church. Scheuringer retired from active practice in 1968.
Scheuringer was a member of the AIA, the Engineers Club, and the Guild of Church Architects. He registered to practice in Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. He also occasionally taught architectural classes at Temple University.
