Born in Philadelphia, PA, Gerald Schwam received his architectural training at the University of Pennsylvania, completing a B.Arch. in 1953.
Schwam then worked as a draftsman for several Philadelphia firms: Norman Rice, Clifford Garner and Thalheimer & Weitz. In 1956, he and Herman Hassinger formed Hassinger & Schwam. The firm became Hassinger, Schwam & White ca. 1972. Schwam joined the national AIA and the Philadelphia Chapter in 1957.
