Born in Philadelphia, William J. Zalewski studied architecture at the Drexel Institute in evening classes between 1934 and 1937 before completing a B.S. in architecture at Pennsylvania Sate College in 1938. He returned to Pennsylvania in 1959, when he joined the office of the Muhlenberg Brothers in Wyomissing. By 1970, Zalewski was living in Wynnewood, PA, and at the time of his death he was a resident of Reading. Zalewiski joined the national AIA in 1947 and was an active member of the Central Pennsylvania Chapter in his early career, chairing the practice and ethics committee in 1953 and serving as president in 1954. After his Florida sojourn, Zalewski joined the Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter.
