Partners Paul J. Henon, Jr., and James F. Boyle followed in the footsteps of fathers already established in Philadelphia's architectural and building industry. Paul J. Henon, Jr.'s father was a well-known Philadelphia builder; James F. Boyle's father, Rowland W. Boyle, produced a thriving architectural practice based on Catholic work. Following his death in 1911, the two younger men established their architectural firm, basing much of their work on contacts with Catholic church projects already cemented by Rowland J. Boyle. Unfortunately for the firm, James F. Boyle only survived his father by seven years. After the death of James F. Boyle, Henon allied himself with William Hoffman and the new firm named Hoffman-Henon Co. Although Henon & Boyle relied upon Catholic work for most of their practice, Paul J. Henon's interests in theater design also drew clientele.
