Born in Philadelphia, PA, Morton L. Fishman gained his professional training in architectural and engineering offices in the city after military service in World War II. He also attended evening classes at the Drexel Institute of Technology in 1951, and was enrolled in refresher courses at the University of Pennsylvania in 1954. Fishman began his career as a draftsman in the firm of Baader, Young & Schultze in 1948. This was followed by a succession of relatively brief stints in other offices: Ralph B. Bencker (1949-1951), United Engineers & Constructors (1952), and Chatfield & Schlicher (1953-1954). In 1954, Fishman joined John Sabatino's practice. They formed a partnerhip the following year. Sabatino & Fishman continued until 1967. Fishman joined the national AIA in 1956, and was a member of Philadelphia Chapter. He taught at the Spring Garden Institute in Philadelphia in the 1960s.
