Born: 1/15/1900, Died: 1969

Born in Philadelphia and educated at the Drexel Institute of Technology (Civil Engineering, 1922), with other courses taken at the University of Pennsylvania (1947), Lewis J. Cowan began his career as a draftsman for architect and engineer W. A. Young (1926-1928). By 1932 he had organized his own firm, mixing design and engineering skills. By the 1950s Cowan has developed a specialty in housing and is responsible for the Welsh Grant Corporation Housing development (Cresswood Park, Philadelphia, 1955).
