Morgan Bunting had trained in the Franklin Institute Drawing School followed by a number of years with the office of Furness, Evans & Co. The younger Arthur Shrigley was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, had achieved some level of recognition as an undergraduate in competitions administered by the Society of Beaux-Arts Architects, based in New York, and had gained his practical training with Frank Miles Day & Bro. By partnering with Shrigley, Bunting added Beaux-Arts-influenced design expertise to the firm; and the partnership prospered, creating the Buck Hill Falls Inn resort (1901, but with later alterations and additions continuing to 1929) in the Pocono Mountains for a group of Quaker families, as well as a number of Friends' school buildings in the Philadelphia area. Bunting & Shrigley is one of several firms in Philadelphia which will base a good part of its work on service to the Quaker community. Since both Morgan Bunting and Arthur Shrigley belonged to the Darby meeting (although Shrigley would later in life join the First Unitarian Church in Philadelphia), their client lists begin with connections to Friends' schools, meetinghouses, and colleges.
However, as the practice matured, without discarding these valuable connections, the partners expanded their client base, especially in the area of bank and commercial design. In 1915 they undertook the Farm Journal Building on Washington Square in addition to alterations to the Philadelphia Suburban Gas and Electric Co. in Chester, PA; in 1916 they designed the Logan Trust Company at 1431-33 Chestnut Street; and in 1925 they offered the Lansdowne Trust Co. bank and office building at Baltimore and Lansdowne Avenue.
After Bunting's death in 1929, Shrigley finished the work in the office; but then he himself retired from practice.
