Born and educated in Philadelphia, Benjamin S. Linfoot inherited the architectural traditions of his family and launched his own firm in 1954. After studying at the William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia, Linfoot obtained his architectural education at the University of Pennsylvania (B. Arch., 1934). He had begun his career by working as assistant architect for the Resettlement Administration (1935-1937; Greenbelt Communities) and on the U.S. Housing Administration's Tasker Housing (1937). He then joined a number of Philadelphia offices before striking out on his own: Morgan, Lichty & Stopper (1938-1942); Eugene A. Stopper (chief draftsman, 1942-1943); George Daub (job captain, 1946-1948); George W. Pepper, Jr. (job captain, 1948-1950); David Morgan (chief draftsman and office manager, 1950-1952); Roth & Fleisher (1952-1954). According to the 1970 American Architects Directory, Linfoot closed his own office in 1958 and by 1960 had joined Eshbach Pullinger Stevens & Bruder, architects and engineers, as a senior associate, remaining there at least until 1970.
