Michael Capobianco was born in Philadelphia to cigar manufacturer Pasquale Capobianco and his wife Pasqualina Esposita Capobianco. The young Capobianco graduated from Brown Preparatory School in Philadelphia in 1912 and attended the University of Pennsylvania in various departments sporadically from 1912 until 1919, apparently never receiving his degree. He is listed in the Philadelphia city directories as an architect from 1922 to 1929, with the following addresses: 1922 to 1923, 778 South 7th Street; 1924 to 1929, 721 Walnut Street. The Walnut Street address is one shared for a time by E. F. Bertolett and Max Bernhardt, but no formal relationship has been documented among the three.
Even given the sketchy nature of his biographical information, Capobianco is represented with some frequency in the Philadelphia Real Estate Record and Builders Guide, where his commissions chiefly serve Philadelphia's Italian-American community.
