Wallace E. Ruhe was born in Allentown, PA, to Joseph and Eliza A. Ruhe. He attended Muhlenberg Preparatory School and Lehigh University before entering the University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated in 1899 with his B.S. in Architecture. After graduation Ruhe sought office training with Edgar V. Seeler (1899-1900) and, moving to New York, Ernest Flagg (1900-1901), but soon returned to Allentown, where he established a partnership, Ruhe & Lange, with offices at 12 North 6th Street in Allentown. In 1944 this partnership dissolved, with some 1500 designs to its credit, according to his obituary.
