School architect Stanley Yocom was born in Norristown, PA, the son of Herbert D. and Ellen B. Yocom. He attended Norristown High School but withdrew to enter Williamson Trade School in 1897. Leaving Williamson in 1900, he entered the Pennsylvania Museum and School of Industrial Arts and attended classes in 1901/02, and finally graduated from Drexel Institute's evening school with his Certificate in Building Construction in 1918. Through this history of his education is woven a long list of firms by whom he was employed, including Kennedy & Kelsey from 1900-1902, the International Correspondence School in Scranton, PA, from 1902 to 1903, Ford, Bacon & Davis in New York City, from 1903-04, Brockie & Hastings 1904/05, and Price & McLanahan from 1905 to 1908. He further received atelier experience with Donn Barber and with the T-Square Club.
On 1 January 1908 Yocom was employed by the Philadelphia Board of Public Education, and he remained in its employ until his retirement on 1 August 1950, serving during his final years there (1938-1950) as Chief of Architecture and Engineering.
