Theodore Cam grew up in Philadelphia and attended Dobbins Vocational High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army after graduation and served in Korea. After returning to Philadelphia, he worked for a number of firms in the city, and attended evening classes at the Drexel Institute, completing an architectural degree in 1958.
Cam established his own firm in the city in the early 1960s (his practice later moved to Bala Cynwyd). He joined the national AIA in 1969, having been a member of the Philadelphia Chapter since 1963.
