Charles B. Taylor appears in Philadelphia city directories from 1868 to 1879. He begins as a carpenter (1868-1869), but in the 1870 listing he changes his occupation to architect, with an office at 204 South 5th Street, an address shared by James C. Sidney in that year's directory. In 1874 Taylor notes himself as a partner with William H. Prince in Prince & Taylor, with offices at 500 Locust Street. In 1875, however, he returns to independent work with offices at 731 Walnut Street, where he remains through 1877, disappearing in 1878, and reappearing in 1879 at 5030 Tacony Street, where he had resided since 1872.
