Born in Missoula, MT, David Dean Freeman completed a B. A. in chemistry at the University of Montana in 1950. After military service in 1951-1953, he came Philadelphia to study architecture at the University of Pennsylvania. Freeman completed a B. Arch. in 1956, winning the Faculty Medal in Architecture in 1954 and the AIA Student Medal his final year. In the 1950s Freeman worked with Dolph and Frederick Zink, developers in Valley Forge and Upper Merion. In 1963 he became a partner in the King of Prussia, PA practice of John T. Brugger, Jr.. Brugger & Freeman continued until 1969, when Yerkes, Brugger & Freeman was created when civil engineers John B. Yerkes and John B. Yerkes, Jr. became partners. Freeman had retired from his position as general manager of the successor firm, Yerkes Associates, Inc. by 1998. Freeman joined national AIA in 1970 and was a member of the Philadelphia Chapter.
