Ashton S. Tourison, Sr., was born in the Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia. He apprenticed to carpenter Edward Hicks, according to the Germantown Independent (14 November 1902), and established an illustrious career as a builder/developer in Germantown, with work including the Germantown Cricket Club. His sons Ashton Tourison, Jr. and George Bartle Tourison (Bart) followed him into building/architecture careers.
