Born: 8/22/1898, Died: 2/2/1958

Raymond T. Gleeson was born in Philadelphia, the son of Timothy Francis and Margaret (Murphy) Gleeson. After graduating from Catholic High School in Philadelphia in 1917, he entered the University of Pennsylvania on a City of Philadelphia scholarship and graduated in 1921 with his B.S. in Architecture. He then gained office experience with architects Philip Johnson, Clarence Wunder, and Hoffman-Henon, before setting out on his own with a University of Pennsylvania classmate, Thomas F. Mulrooney, in September, 1923. Gleeson's work with Hoffman-Henon had prepared him for Catholic church projects; Mulrooney was a native of Wilmington, DE. The resulting partnership (Gleeson & Mulrooney) drew its strength from both of these factors, triumphing in Catholic church designs, especially in Delaware. At its height, the firm maintained offices in both Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.

Gleeson was a member of the AIA and its Philadelphia Chapter, as well as the Pennsylvania Society of Architects, the Cahill Club, and the Catholic Philopatrian Association.
