Born: 6/27/1869 Henry L. Reinhold, Jr., was born in Philadelphia, the son of Henry L. and Mary (Coffin) Reinhold. After graduating from John Hancock High School in 1886, he studied at Drexel Institute, the Spring Garden Institute, and the Pennsylvania Museum and School of Industrial Art, where he also taught wood-carving. His apprenticeship in architecture was served with the Novelty Iron Works and the Petit Iron Co., both of Philadelphia; and in 1894 he and Clarence E. Schermerhorn established their partnership under the name Schermerhorn & Reinhold and later succeeded to the office of Stephen D. Button. In 1901 this partnership dissolved, and Reinhold continued his architectural practice at least until 1932, in some years, according to the Philadelphia city directories, combining his practice with an interest in the Vansant Company, purveyors of coffee. Reinhold's individual practice was primarily residential design, marked by the development of Stone Harbor, NJ.Reinhold was a member of the American Institute of Architects and its Philadelphia Chapter; but in 1905, he along with Schermerhorn and Emile G. Perrot of Ballinger & Perrot, were investigated by the Chapter for publishing monographs of their work, a practice disturbing to the Chapter, which interpreted this action as unprofessional advertising. In November, 1905, the three were forced to defend their publishing efforts. In the end, both Reinhold and Schermerhorn offered to withdraw their works from circulation; but Perrot threatened to resign if forced to relinquish his right to publish.
