Philip Merz, formerly of the New York firm of McKim, Mead & White, worked first in Philadelphia as a designer with Horace Trumbauer. His first independent projects are noted in the 1917 issues of the Philadelphia Real Estate Record and Builders Guide, and he continues to be listed as an architect in the Philadelphia city directories through 1926.
