Paul Monaghan, Jr., son of an emminent Philadelphia architect specializing in Catholic commissions, received his B.S. in Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania in 1952. After graduation he worked as a draftsman for Howell Lewis Shay for several years. In 1954 he established his own firm, but in 1960 took on a partner and revised the name of the firm to Monaghan & Forrest. In 1969 he returned to individual practice. For a time, according to the office's publicity brochure, he associated with Alexander M. Ewing & Assocs.
Monaghan joined the AIA in 1952.
