Richard W. Mecaskey was born in Philadelphia to Dr. John Wesley Mecaskey. He received his Certificate of Proficiency from the University of Pennsylvania in 1915. For many years he was a member of the office of Boyd, Abel & Gugert but launched his own firm around 1930, with a specialty in residential architecture.
Mecaskey joined the AIA in 1925. He also served as the president of the Octavia Hill Association
