Edward C. White was born in Baltimore, MD, the son of architect Lucius R. White, Jr. Like his father, he studied architecture at the University of Pennsylvania, completing a B. Arch. in 1942. After a brief stint with the J. E. Greiner Company in 1943, he joined his father's firm and was made a partner in 1949. The Whites continued to practice together until Lucius White's death in 1970. By 1973 White was employed in Swarthmore in Abbott W. Thompson Associates.
White became an junior member of the AIA in 1943 and an associate in 1945. He transferred from the Chesapeake Bay Chapter, AIA, to the Philadelphia Chapter in 1973. In 1975 he requested a transfer to the San Antonio Chapter.
