Born in Ticonderoga, NY, to John and Helen Elizabeth (Evans) Bold, Ralph E. Bold received his C.E. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1910. After various stints of employment as a civil engineer, Bold entered Turner Construction Co. in their New York office as a draftsman (1917). This led to a supervisory position with E. I. Dupont de Nemours & Co. in Carneys Point, NJ, and Nashville, TN (1917-1919). By 1920 he had relocated to Philadelphia and held a position with the General Electric Co.
