Born in Philadelphia to Coleman and Sophisba (Peale) Sellers, Coleman Sellers began his engineering career as a draftsman for the Globe Rolling Mill in Cincinnati, OH. Returning to Philadelphia in 1856, he was engaged as an engineer with William Sellers & Company, where he remined until 1886.
