Born: 1816, Died: 1892 Engineer and architect Montgomery C. Meigs is chiefly remembered for his many works in the District of Columbia, including his contributions to the design of the dome of the U. S. Capitol. He had received his engineering education at West Point and continued as a career officer in the U. S. Army.
