Frederick W. Clarke, son of Dr. William Harvey Clarke, was born in Bladon Springs, AL. He earned a special certificate in architecture at the University of Pennsylvania in 1924. Before founding his own office in 1927 in Mobile, AL, Clarke worked with a number of different firms in Mobile, Birmingham, AL, and in Philadelphia for John I. Bright and Day & Klauder. Clarke joined the national AIA in 1927 and was a member of the Alabama Chapter.
