Walter T. Mayo studied architecture at the Pennsylvania Museum and School of Industrial Art, then became a draftsman with James H. Windrim (1902/03). He lists himself as a draftsman in the Philadelphia city directories from 1909 to 1913 and as an architect from 1914 to 1917. However, his office address at 1701 Chestnut is only noted from 1915 to 1917. By 1927 May has become a partner for the aging Arnold H. Moses in Camden, NJ.
