Born: 7/15/1877

Born in Tunnelton, WV, to Ashbel F. and Elizabeth (Brown) Gibson, W. Herbert Gibson earned his B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of West Virginia in 1903. From 1902 to 1903 he was engaged in "electric railroad work" in West Virginia, according to the 1939 Who's Who. He followed this with mining work in western Pennsylvania in 1904. From 1905 to 1909 he associated with Walter Loring Webb in the design of reinforced concrete structures and in 1909 began working exclusively on designing and superintending structural work for architects from his office in the Architects Building in Philadelphia.

Again, according to the 1939 Who's Who, Gibson worked on 17 buildings for Princeton University, five buildings at Yale University, four buildings at Wellesley College, nine buildings for the University of Delaware, 18 buildings at Pennsylvania State College, one building for Hahnemann Hospital, five buildings for Concordia Seminary, five buildings for the Hotel Dennis in Atlantic City, NJ, several public schools in Atlantic City, and Hill Creek Housing project in Philadelphia.
