Born in Cortland, OH, Albert L. Thayer enjoyed a career in New Castle, PA, before he moved to Cleveland, OH, to continue his practice. He had graduated from the University of Illinois in 1898 and by 1902 was a partner in C. C. & A. L. Thayer, architects in New Castle. By 1920 this firm name had been revised to Thayer & Thayer, and soon after it appears that A. L. Thayer moved to Cleveland, establishing Thayer & Johnson there.
