Born in Portchester, NY, to Samuel and Julia (Rothschild) Gottlieb, Albert Samuel Gottlieb studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1887 to 1892, then continued his architectural education at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Paris, from 1896 to 1900. In between his stints of education, from 1892 to 1896, Gottlieb worked for McKim, Mead & White in New York, and upon his return to New York after Paris, he established his own practice in 1900, remaining in New York until 1934. In 1934 he retired to Harrington, DE.
