Born Southern Pines, NC, Clyde Martin Drayton graduated from Armstrong Technical High School in Washington, DC, in 1932. Upon graduation, he attended Howard University School of Architecture and Engineering, after which he became a draftsman for Albert I. Cassell. He founded his own architecture firm in 1942, and for a period of time worked with Louis Edwin Fry, Sr.
Drayton retired from practiace in 1966.
