P. Eberhard Schaefer lists himself as an architect in Philadelphia city directories from 1889 to 1890 although his projects had begun appearing in the Philadelphia Real Estate Record and Builders Guide in 1888. By 1889 the projects listed in the PRERBG indicate that he had established a partnership with Frederick Ausfeld, but simultaneously projects appear for Schaefer & Co.. Most of the work cited for Schaefer (and his companies) concentrate on residential design; however, he also publishes notes regarding a hotel at Sea Isle City, NJ (1888), the Columbia Singing Society Building (2d and Norris streets, 1889), and St. Johns Evangelical Church (6th and Dauphin streets, 1889).
