For the year 1863, the Octavius V. Catto Colored School rented out a room in the Masonic Hall. The school originally was located at the private house of Miss Jennings, the school teacher, at South Street. Then in 1864, the school transferred to a building on Ohio Street and renamed as the Colored Unclassified School, (Curtis, p. 265).
